Gua sha is a traditional Chinese medicine tool that has been used for over 2500 years for many therapeutic purposes. The use of gua sha for cosmetic enhancement began back in ancient China, when the empress would use it in her beauty routine. In recent years, it has gained popularity in the United States, being promoted by cosmetic acupuncturists, dermatologists and beauty and skincare experts.
Facial gua sha is a form of gentle self-massage that uses a small stone to help improve and brighten complexion, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and detoxify the body.
So what is it good for? And why should you add it to your skincare routine? For starters, here are some of the benefits:
